Book your place on a Cultural Competency workshop for health care workers and volunteers in Wakefield District

Free places are available on the upcoming Cultural Competency workshops to partners working and volunteering in health and social care across Wakefield District, providing a great opportunity for people to share their experiences and learn from others.
This training will be delivered face to face over three hours and will be delivered locally, at community-based venues.  The training will look at:

  • Understanding culture both individually and within a wider social context.
  • Understanding self, including cultural humility.

The training will be delivered in a participatory way and aims to create a safe space for people to have conversations.

This interactive training explores:

  • Becoming aware of our own cultural norms, attitudes, beliefs, and behaviours.
  • Examining our own personal biases, stereotypes, and prejudices.
  • Better understanding of what unconscious bias is and to reflect upon our own.
  • Understanding what is meant by ‘culture’ and why it is important for health professionals to be aware of how this can impact health.
  • Understanding the impact cultural differences might have on interactions with others.
  • Become comfortable with “not knowing” – balancing expert knowledge with being open to learning from the community and people’s lived experiences.

These workshops can be accessed for free by our Wakefield District Health and Social Care Partnership organisations.  Booking is via Ticket Source: sessions taking place in 2025 and 2026

As well as booking your place on one of these sessions, we would be grateful if you could also help to promote these sessions in your organisation.
