Health and care services on Monday 19 September
GP practices in Wakefield District will be closed on Monday 19 September 2022, following the announcement that this will be a national bank holiday to mark Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II’s State Funeral. They will reopen as usual on Tuesday 20 September 2022.
There will be ongoing access to general practice services on Monday 19 September through GP Care Wakefield between the hours of 8am and 3pm.
Simply call your usual practice number and you will be transferred to speak to a trained clinician. They will assess your problem and, if necessary, you will be offered a same-day appointment.
If you have a pre-booked GP practice appointment for Monday 19 September, your practice will contact you to rearrange your appointment.
The Mid Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust will be running all clinics and appointments at Dewsbury, Pinderfields and Pontefract hospitals and in community services as normal. We understand some patients may choose not to attend as they will be marking the funeral of Her Majesty the Queen. If so, please contact the Trust as soon as possible using the contact details on your appointment letter so that your appointment can be rescheduled.
We ask that you ensure you have enough of your usual repeat medication to last for the extended weekend. All requests for repeat medication should be submitted as soon as possible to give enough time to process them before the coming weekend.
For information about many common illnesses and injuries, symptoms and treatments, and advice about what to do, when to get help and which NHS service to use, visit the NHS website.
Some pharmacies will be open on Monday. You can drop in for expert advice on many common illnesses such as headaches, sore throats and aches and pains, and there is no need to book an appointment.
Pharmacies can also give you help and information on which medicines you can buy over the counter to help manage your illness. To find a pharmacy, visit the NHS website.
For urgent, non-life-threatening illnesses or injuries, King Street Walk In Centre in Wakefield will be open between 10am and 10pm. Ring the service on 01924 882350 to speak to a clinician. Alternatively, Pontefract Urgent Treatment Centre (UTC) will be open 24 hours. To book an appointment, please ring NHS 111.
