The King Street Walk In Centre is open from 10am to 10pm, seven days a week, every day of the year.

People in Wakefield are being reminded that help for minor illnesses and injuries – in under-an-hour in most cases – is conveniently available right in the city centre.

The ‘Don’t Wait, Walk In’ campaign encourages residents to use the Walk in Centre on King Street, Wakefield for same-day care for children over six-months-old and adults.

The service is open from 10am to 10pm, seven days a week, every day of the year.

Clinicians at the Walk in Centre can prescribe medication, meaning many patients can have their problem assessed, treated and prescribed for in one visit.

The Walk in Centre can help with a wide range of illness and injury that don’t require an x-ray, including:

  • sprains, strains, cuts and minor burns
  • common infections including ear, throat and chest
  • sickness and diarrhoea
  • minor skin problems, bites and stings
  • urgent wound dressing
  • emergency contraception

There is no appointment needed and using the Walk In Centre is a great way of skipping the wait and getting seen quickly.

Official data from between April and September of this year shows the average wait time is between 35 and 54 minutes.

Rachel Baker-Green, Clinical Service Manager at Local Care Direct which delivers the service at the Walk In Centre on King Street, said:

“People often head to A&E or wait for a GP appointment when they could be seen much faster at King Street.

“Our clinicians can assess, treat and prescribe for most minor illnesses and injuries.

“We want people to know that they can simply walk in and get the care they need. In most cases this is in under one hour. So Don’t Wait, Walk In.”

The campaign will run across social media in the run up to Christmas and New Year, highlighting the range of issues the Walk In Centre can deal with 365 days a year.

King Street Walk in Centre is based in Wakefield city centre, close to Wakefield Westgate train station and just a six-minute walk from Wakefield bus station.
