New Wakefield Musculoskeletal Service success
Launched in April 2025, the Wakefield Musculoskeletal Service for organisations across Wakefield District Health and Care Partnership has already received 120 referrals with over 70 patients treated and discharged.
Whether staff, workers or volunteers are currently off work with MSK related problems, likely to be absent from work, or have reduced productivity in work due to MSK health issues, Wakefield District Health and Care Partnership organisations are now able to refer their employees directly into the Wakefield MSK Service. Each participating organisation selects one or more referring managers who will receive an induction on the online portal by Physio Med, the MSK service partners for this initiative.
There are currently over 40 referring managers, across 33 organisations who have registered in Wakefield District. This means that over 15,000 people can access the service if they need to. Once referred, Physio Med will respond to the individual within 24 hours and discuss a suitable pathway, such as on-line exercise routines or face to face physiotherapy.
This service will provide a rehabilitation package, tailored to meet the needs of the individual. This will be is easy to follow, user friendly, educational and effective and will help prevent people going off work, get them back to work and keep people fit and well.
Wherever possible Physio Med will help by empowering patients to self-manage their condition through virtual or telephone support and online exercise routines. Patients who require access to a physiotherapist will be referred into a network of over 780 practices. All practitioners have been selected to provide the highest clinical standards.
