Wakefield District's general practices have demonstrated their commitment to NHS health checks

GP practices in Wakefield District have delivered more than 1,400 NHS Health Checks, according to the latest round of figures – helping provide a crucial early warning system to patients.

The NHS health check is a free check-up of your overall health. It can tell you whether you’re at higher risk of conditions such as heart disease, kidney disease, diabetes and stroke.

Latest quarterly statistics show that 1,400 of the checks have been delivered across Wakefield District.

The quality of the programme’s delivery also continues to be developed with four staff training sessions scheduled this year.

This is alongside Cardiovascular Disease prevention work which is underway through the Healthy Hearts programme and is improving the identification of those who may be at risk.

Thank you to all those working in Primary Care teams who continue to support NHS Health Checks and the Healthy Hearts programme.

NHS health checks are for people who are aged 40 to 74 who do not have a pre-existing health condition. More information can be found on the NHS website.

If you think you are eligible but have not been invited, contact your GP surgery to find out if they offer NHS Health Checks.
