Wakefield District Health & Care Partnership Experience of Care Network wins national award
A group of partners dedicated to improving people’s experience of care across Wakefield District have won a major national award for their innovative work.
The Wakefield District Health & Care Partnership’s Experience of Care Network was named winner of the Strengthening the Foundation award at the Patient Experience Network National Awards (PENNA) in Birmingham this week.
The network includes representatives from the NHS West Yorkshire Integrated Care Board, acute and mental health trusts, public health and social care, Healthwatch Wakefield, as well as the likes of Wakefield College, Nova, local hospices and Young Lives Consortium.
They meet regularly to share and analyse patient feedback – identifying top themes and developing plans to improve people’s experience of services.
This ensures the voice of patients is integral to the way services operate and that joined-up care can be delivered through joined-up listening.
By establishing a mutual understanding of local issues among partners, the network has sought to give people improved and consistent experiences across different care pathways and services.
Penny Woodhead, Director of Nursing and Quality, said:
“Our Experience of Care Network has listened carefully to ensure we learn from people’s lived experience throughout the whole of Wakefield District.“By coordinating services and aligning priorities, our aim has been to close any gaps in care that exist and improve outcomes for all – including those with the greatest needs.“We are thrilled that our network’s passion to put people and what matters most to them at the heart of our services has been recognised this way at the PENNA awards.”
The Wakefield District Experience of Care Network first met at the end of 2021 and since then has grown to see representatives from 16 separate organisations attending.
The PENNA awards are the first and only awards programme to recognise best practice in patient experience across all facets of health and social care in the UK.
