Wakefield Families Together finalists at the 2024 HSJ Awards – setting the standard for early intervention and prevention for children, young people and families

A partnership that aims to give every child in Wakefield District the best start in life were finalists in the national 2024 HSJ Awards.

Wakefield Families Together: Integrated and Holistic Pathways to Support Children and Young People’s Health and Wellbeing Needs, were finalists in the Early Intervention and Prevention for Children, Young People and Families Award at the HSJ Awards, highlighting their exceptional work in supporting the health and wellbeing of local children and young people.

This partnership brings together organisations from across Wakefield District and beat off competition from over 1350 entries that were received for this year’s Awards.

Giving every child the best start in life is a key priority of Wakefield District’s Health and Wellbeing strategy. Local organisations work together as part of the Wakefield District Children’s Health Alliance to design services that meet the needs of local children from the earliest opportunity.

The Children’s Alliance – part of  Wakefield Families Together – brings together commissioners and providers from acute and community services, including the Voluntary Community and Social Enterprise sector, who focused on supporting local children and young people through the community-based Family Hubs, providing dedicated healthcare and monitoring during evening and weekends through the Children’s Observation Hub and introducing a comprehensive emotional and mental health treatment and support service.

Cllr Margaret Isherwood, Cabinet Member for Children and Young People at Wakefield Council, said: “We are delighted to be a finalist in this award, which is an opportunity for us to share our good practice around the support that we provide for children, young people and their families across Wakefield District.

We are proud to have the opportunity to share our success and showcase everything we’ve learnt through this way of working.”

The awards ceremony took place at Evolution London on 21 November 2024.
